Avoid Non- Veg During Shravan Month, According to the Hindu religious book, the month Shravan or Sawan is a holy month and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva.  Most of the Hindus remain on fast on every Monday of Sawan month.  Whereas some Hindus do fast in whole Sawan month. So we should not intake non-vegetarian things during this month. We should know the scientific reason behind it too.  It is the rainy season, which is full of humidity. Various types of germs, viruses, and insects are born and spread out during this period.  So due to this reason, the rainy season is very infectious, causing the spread of many viral, gastrointestinal, and infectious diseases.

Cause of non-eating of non-vegetarian food

1. Flesh

It is a rainy month, full of humidity, Germs develop in the flesh easily and caused many infections such as diarrhea, vomiting, fever, etc. So, scientifically it is suggested not to intake flesh during Shravan month.

2. Alcohol

Intake of alcohol is never good for human beings. Alcohol spoils the normal function of the stomach, liver, and kidney.  And caused a hurdle in the detoxifying human body. So, its intake should be avoided during this month.

3. Brinjal

As per religious beliefs, brinjal during this period become infectious.  But it is a stormy season, which spoils this vegetable by developing germs in it.  So they avoid to intake it during this month.

4. Cucumbur

In the rainy season, cucumbers also get infected due to various germs and caused many gastrointestinal diseases, such as stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and gastro-enteritis. So we do not eat cucumber during this month.

5. Dairy Products

We should avoid intake of milk and milk products during Shravan month because it can cause little imbalance during fasting and detoxifying the body. It can cause an acidic reaction in the body during the period of fast. And as per religious belief, dairy products are sourced from animals, do not consume them.

6. Risk of  spread of various disease

Rains give us relief from the blowing heat by its cold breeze. But it causes the spread of certain viral and bacterial infections. Which resulting the spread of diarrhea, gastric entities, etc. Thus we do not intake heavy things like flesh, egg, and other seafood during this period.

As per Vedic literature, there are three types of food,

1. Tamsik food

Tamsik foods include meat, flesh, onion, garlic, mushrooms, overripe and underripe fruits. Some fermented foods like vinegar, pastries, cakes, stale foods are tamsik foods. We must avoid intaking these food items.

2. Rajsik food

Rajsik food is a mixture of hot, spicy, and salty food items with a pungent taste. This food promotes negativity, passion, and restlessness, raise in blood pressure. We must avoid these items.

3. Satvik

In brief, we must eat Satvik food during Shravan month. Satvik food develops in the human mind compassionate loving, purity, and keep away from jealousy, greed, and anger. They remain healthy and calm full.
